In the Works: Nokia X10
There is a brand new Nokia Symbian smart phone heading our way and it looks like the new device will be hitting the mid range mobile market when it launches.
While high end smart phones with dual core processors are all the rage in new developments these days, the real market lies with the 600MHz devices. No everyone wants to go out and buy the HTC Desire, but many are looking to get the HTC Legend; despite the vast difference in hardware –budget costs are always bigger concerns.
Anyway, no confirmation yet as to when we can expect this new Nokia device to hit the shelves, but the word on the streets is that this new phone will be sporting the latest Symbian OS, version ^3. The Symbian^3 (Symbian three), will be an open source mobile platform and it expected to have plenty of app support.
It is known that the UI will be primarily touch based which means some of the older Nokia models may not be compatible with an update to the new version. In some ways, we half-expect this OS to not appear on older devices at all.
The X10 is the successor of the X6 –which was rereleased a few weeks ago in its 16GB format. The XpressMusic line of smart phones has been a pretty impressive set from Nokia, and in some ways, it is more successful than the N-series.
Specs-wise, the X10 will be running on a 600MHz processor. That may sound slow, but the HTC Legend runs at the same speed. Despite 1GHz Snapdragons being the norm lately, the lower end devices always have a significantly larger market. The 12 mega pixel camera on the other hand is completely off the charts with the 720p HD video recording.
