Nokia N8-00 Rumors and Speculations

March 31, 2010

There’s a brand new Nokia N-series smart phone and while it was originally announced that all N-series phones would be using the Maemo operating system, this device will be using the brand new Symbian^3 mobile platform.

So far, details on the open source OS (yes, Symbian has gone open source now), are still few and far in between, but according to some rumors, the platform will be having plenty of app support thanks to its ‘very open source’ nature.

Anyway, according to the various reports and rumors about the N8-00, this phone is going to be geared towards media-fans who love to watch and even record videos on their smart phone. The rumors about the device being able to play 1080p videos and even has an HDMI port merges nicely with reports that the phone also has a 12 mega pixel snapper that can shoot videos in 720p.

All that high resolution glory will also be getting DivX certification as well –making the N8-00 the third smart phone to be supporting the media format in portable HD.

So far, interest in the N8-00 is still at a mediocre level as most of the mobile phone community is still looking forward to the release of several Android smart phones this April.

Still this does not mean that the Symbian has completely lost all of its supports. As stated above, there will be plenty of app support for the new platform, which means that Nokia has been able to attract a sufficient dev community which will hopefully, make even more apps once the device comes out. Of course, we can expect this phone to have the usual smart phone features such as GPS, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth, WiFi and naturally, 3G.
