Nokia’s Ovi Store gets simple but essential changes in the desktop-based store as well as the mobile Ovi client. The changes were brought about based on the feedback sent by Ovi Store patrons as well as the comments and suggestions from the Nokia community.

The company had three goals regarding the launch of the Ovi improvements. The first one is to provide users with a cleaner look to make it easier to browse and search for content. The second refers to the level of detail in the reviews, which is the reason for the increase in the Store’s star rating system. The last goal is to assist users better in searching for content by offering a more detailed description on the applications.

The desktop improvements focus on a simpler list view interface which makes access to content faster and less tedious. The user will have to go through a Nokia Mobile Device Selector if he/she is not currently logged in before checking an app. This is placed to make sure that users do not buy apps that are incompatible to their device and minimize errors associated in using the store.

It replaces the carousel interface that was the store’s previous design. A mobile selector link is conveniently located in the corner at the upper right hand side of the application page so that it would be easy to change the search for compatibility to another device.

Mobile updates improved how the app details were displayed by giving a more efficient system of browsing the sample screens. This gives users a faster way of checking out an app without needing to go deeper into the page.

The most significant improvement involved the Store’s app rating system. Instead of the previous three stars, users can now rate a downloaded app up to five stars. Only those who have downloaded the app may use the rating system in order to give a more accurate feedback.
