Powered by the normal movements and energy exerted during normal usage, the smart phone can run perpetually. Eliminating the need to find the closest charging station is a godsend for busy, forgetful or outright lazy mobile phone owners.

Nokia has heard your pleas and has filed a patent for a “piezoelectric kinetic energy harvester.” While it sounds like some type of food, it may just mean that scrambling for the charger when a phone rings while low on power may be a thing of the past.

Inspired by kinetic wristwatches, Nokia has come up with the idea of integrating movement as a power source. With the use of a “force transferring assembly” leaving the heavier internal parts to have limited movement inside the phone, the Finnish-phone manufacturer has found a way to make use of the normal rotations and accelerations the phone experiences normally.

It may seem overwhelming at first, especially since visions of movement generated technology may spring to mind a certain MP3 player that is powered by dance pants.

This solution comes as no surprise because even Greenpeace has taken notice of Nokia. The Finland-based company has been known to volley in the ranks of the most environmentally friendly companies. This patent certainly takes the cake as one of the most eco-friendly mobile phone solutions in recent years. It even has the potential to top off the dual-powered mobile phone from India if it gets implemented.

Though it is practical, will this mean a line of phones without chargers? Maybe not but if the patent gets rejected, maybe Nokia should start an example and make solar powered phone chargers a standard instead.

Props to the Finnish for a futuristic energy solution, but there is still no word if the patent is anywhere near approved. At the very least, mobile phone companies should take a cue from this to start utilizing readily available energy sources.

Read more about this patent in Engadget.

There is a brand new Nokia Symbian smart phone heading our way and it looks like the new device will be hitting the mid range mobile market when it launches.

While high end smart phones with dual core processors are all the rage in new developments these days, the real market lies with the 600MHz devices. No everyone wants to go out and buy the HTC Desire, but many are looking to get the HTC Legend; despite the vast difference in hardware –budget costs are always bigger concerns.

Anyway, no confirmation yet as to when we can expect this new Nokia device to hit the shelves, but the word on the streets is that this new phone will be sporting the latest Symbian OS, version ^3. The Symbian^3 (Symbian three), will be an open source mobile platform and it expected to have plenty of app support.

It is known that the UI will be primarily touch based which means some of the older Nokia models may not be compatible with an update to the new version. In some ways, we half-expect this OS to not appear on older devices at all.

The X10 is the successor of the X6 –which was rereleased a few weeks ago in its 16GB format. The XpressMusic line of smart phones has been a pretty impressive set from Nokia, and in some ways, it is more successful than the N-series.

Specs-wise, the X10 will be running on a 600MHz processor. That may sound slow, but the HTC Legend runs at the same speed. Despite 1GHz Snapdragons being the norm lately, the lower end devices always have a significantly larger market. The 12 mega pixel camera on the other hand is completely off the charts with the 720p HD video recording.

The Nokia N900 is a very impressive mobile phone. While not many people would agree to it, Nokia considers the N900’s hardware as close to a computer.

At the very least, the device is able to run computer games such as StarCraft thanks to the efforts of developers who have found ways to run computer code on the smart phone. It was only a matter of days after the launch of the Maemo did the very first game emulators on the phone arrive. Now, many N900 owners are enjoying being able to play ROMs for Nintendo and Sega home consoles.

The N900 runs on the new Maemo operating system and it has been decided by the Finnish manufacturer that all succeeding N-series devices be using the Maemo operating system.

While the device is getting plenty of use, some owners of the N900 have reported that the device’s micro USB port is prone to getting misaligned and disconnected. This is a very serious issue. First, the smart phone is reliant on the micro USB for both file transfers and charging purposes. Second, this is matter that Nokia can only fixing by manually repairing the phone. Unlike software problems that can easily be remedied by updates and patches, hardware problems require units to be brought in for repairs.

The problem, as described by those who have it, is a sign that the micro USB slot has not been designed properly for the rigors of daily usage. Should this problem not be a series of isolated causes and instead, be the result of bad manufacturing processes, Nokia will be faced with the problem of having to recall all devices to fix the production error on the N900.

The Sony Six Axis controller is by far, one of the most impressive and ergonomically efficient game controllers ever made. The device started with the old Playstation controller, which was shortly updated with two analog sticks and force feedback technology. The device was named the “Dual Shock” controller. When the Sony Playstation 2 came out, it came with the Dual Shock 2; it uses the same form of the original Dual Shock, but possessed additional pressure sensitivity in the controls.

While people expected that the PS3 would have the Dual Shock “3”, Sony made a surprising move by announcing that they removed the force feedback technology. Instead, they brought in motion controls and called the device “Six Axis”. Force feedback was given to later versions of the controller.

While the best type of gaming to be found these days is in a next gen console like the PS3, it is still nice to poke around with some of the novelty games that are in mobile phones. The Nokia N900 for one has plenty of game applications and access to large number of ROMs thanks to the various emulators for the system. Since the N900 lacks a controller, playing ROMs meant for consoles takes a little getting used.

It comes as to no surprise that Tomasz Sterna found a way to adapt the PC exploit which allowed people to utilize the PS3 controller through Bluetooth to the Nokia N900. The result is simply astounding. Using the said exploit, the N900 is able to accept player input from the Six Axis, effectively giving users an instant game controller for the mobile phone. With the video output port of the N900 in use, the setup is akin to an instant retro-console rig.

See the video of the N900 and the Six Axis in use at Engadget.

The Nokia X6 is an impressive mobile phone –spec wise. With regards to price, it was originally one of the most ridiculously priced smart phones of 2009. The 32Gb version of the X6 Comes with Music is a mobile phone with a big additional cost made to offset the price of being able to download an infinite number of music tracks from the Nokia Music store.

While some have expected the device to increase Nokia’s hold of mobile phone enthusiasts who love music, many quickly knew that the price tag would set people off. In terms of hardware, the X6 was a pretty decent smart phone that was in the mid to slightly low range tier. The price however, was fully high-end; the additional cost discouraged people from buying the device.

Nokia has been busy reviving the x6 and has now come up with a revision; the new Nokia X6 is a 16GB that mirrors everything about the original, with only less internal memory and no more comes with music package. Many are saying that this new Nokia X6 would be one of the cheapest smart phones to be released this year.

The new promotion for the Nokia X6 is the come get entertained. While the device itself does not have any freebies (short of the 25 free track downloads from the Ovi store), it does have access to some exclusive content on the online store. This will bring focus on the X6’s functionality as a media player for both music and video.

The X6 will also benefit from Nokia’s pervious announcement that they would be offering free, unlimited SatNav service to all their devices with GPS and Ovi maps functionality. The announcement was made last week and very few Nokia smart phones are not able to access this new feature.

Music fans will certainly celebrate the re-release of the Nokia X6. Originally, this phone came out last year in its original 32GB form. The phone was impressive, boasting of high end smart phone specs, a great Nokia music download deal and a hefty price tag. Despite the X6’s potential, it did not sell well due to the high price. Now, Nokia is bringing out the device once again, but with a slightly changed deal that might make people consider getting the device this time around.

The biggest problem that the X6 originally had was the fact that most of its target market already had a large digital music library. The X6 was famous for its “Comes with Music” deal which enabled users to download an unlimited amount of tracks from the Nokia Music Store. Sadly, this was not that much of an incentive for people who already have all the music they want. In the end, the deal simply bumped up the price tag on the device.

The new version of the X6 will have pretty much the same hardware as the original except for the huge 32GB internal memory, the new version will only have 16GB. Since the device supports micro SD cards, this is not a major loss. What is important is that the 16GB X6 will not have the “Comes with Music” promo –making the price on the device significantly cheaper.

The X6 will come with a 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen display (360 x 640 pixel resolution, 16 million color display capacity), a 5 mega pixel camera (with autofocus, LED flash and Carl Zeiss lens), an ARM11 434MHz processor, and a 1320 mAh battery –the same exact specs on the 32GB version.

Read the rest of the details regarding the Nokia X6 16GB straight from the source.

People know that Nokia produce all types of phones. Whether it be cheap run around phones, designed to be used rarely and looks not being important, or an important business phone which needs all the latest high tech specs, Nokia cater for all different needs. Their new phone, the Nokia 6700 classic slide phone is aimed to be a cheaper model than others, whilst giving fantastic 3G and internet facilities as well as great photography equipment. The phone comes in 6 different colors, from bright red, to deep purple and lime green, so you can easily find a suitable color for you. The phone uses brand new 3G technology which allows you to quickly connect to the internet, especially social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and twitter. This allows you to update your statuses and keep people in the know where ever you may be. Perhaps you are performing at a gig in London and want to let everyone know how it is going, or maybe you jut got the new job you were hoping for.

The phone comes complete with a 5 megapixel camera, which is built nicely into the design of the camera. This allows you to take professional looking shots on your phone, rather than having to bring along with you a digital camera. Once taken, the photos can be edited and then transferred to your computer or even uploaded straight onto your website from the phone thanks to the 3G technology. Expected to retail at around £140, this Nokia phone is due to be released in the first quarter of 2010, around March.

Nokia is releasing a handset that gives users to ability to watch television right on their mobile phone. They will be able to flip through channels, look up television program schedules and even order premium channels. Individuals can watch nearly identical channels to those available on their sets. So that individuals don’t assume that the Nokia 5330 is a one-trick-pony, I do want to mention that the phone has most of the same features that top smart phones do. Users will have access to a camera, video recording capabilities, a ton of memory and the ability to browse the internet.

The Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition phone comes with a very nice megapixel camera with LED flash and digital zoom. Photos taken with the phone can be shared via Ovi Share. It is also possible to shoot videos with the camera that can be viewed directly on the phone.

The M330 comes with a generous amount of memory, 70MB. Much more can be added via the handset’s microSD card slot, up to 16GB.

These days, what’s a mobile phone without a music player? Owners of this phone won’t have to guess because a music player comes standard. The mobile has a very nice S40 music player and FM radio.

With the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition, it is possible for individuals to be able to watch their favorite programs and sports matches right from their handset. For some people, especially those on the go, this would make life a little more convenient. They won’t have to ever worry about missing any of their favorite television programming no matter where they are. This means that they will be able to watch the big match, live and not have to wait until everyone else has already seen it. There will be no need to listen to the highlights after the fact. No, the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV edition makes it possible for individuals to watch live, while the action is going on.

Nokia have long had a reputation for bringing out quality, affordable and attractive mobile phones. Being one of the first mobile phones companies to start making phones, Nokia have been in business for longer than many of us can remember. Whilst catering their phones for everyones needs, Nokia have managed to keep the price down on their phones whilst not letting the quality down whatsoever.

Their latest release though may be their first phone to properly dig its way into your pocket, but also for good reason. The New Nokia 6700 classic Gold edition is plated with real gold, and gives an outstanding finish to the phone. Being so shiny, it will definitely catch the eye of people in the street, almost making them want to go out and buy one themselves.

Coated in 18 carat gold, the phone comes with a special carry case to hold it, as well as a huge 8GB memory card. 8GB is enough memory to store around 2000 songs, around 40 hours of video or about 20000 photographs! You will never need to buy new memory cards again. If you think that is not good enough, the phone comes with a 5.0megapixel camera. 5.0 is a huge capacity, with many digital cameras alone having less megapixels than that.

It shows that Nokia really do mean business, and although the price may be high at around $500, you are definitely getting your money’s worth. If that still isn’t enough, the phone also comes with Nokia maps, an application that is based on satellite navigation systems, and is used to get you from one location for the other, guiding you step by step from the audio speaker. Hopefully, considering the price, we will be able to pick up the Nokia 6700 Gold Edition on contract for a more agreeable amount.

These mobiles range from featured-packed to very basic. The 6316s is the phone which has the most to offer. Conversely the 1506 is the most bare of the three. Each of these will likely appeal to different markets, with the 1506 probably proving to be the best choice for those interested in spending only a minimal amount of money for a mobile phone.

The 6316s comes with a music player, a 2.0 megapixel camera, dedicated music keys, the ability for individuals to browse the Internet and also send and receive e-mail. It has imaging, built-in GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 and a 2.2 QVGA display screen. It comes in gold, red and black.

The Nokia 3806 is very similar to the 6316S. It has many of the same basic features including video recorder, a 2.0 megapixel camera and 2.2 QVGA screen. It also has a microSD card slot where individuals can add more memory if needed. One of most notable features is the health assistant application. This app is designed to help users improve their health. This phone can be purchased in white, rose gold and black.

As stated above, the 1506 is the cheapest of the three phones. It has minimal features but is a good basic mobile. Individuals will be able to utilize the phone’s voice recorder and speakerphone. It comes in two colors, black and plum.

The Nokia 3806 and the 6316S are both scheduled to hit the market in the early part of 2010. The Nokia 1506 is expected to be available by the end of 2009. Since there are only a few more weeks in December, the 1506 should be out any day now. If it is not, then buyers should expect to see it in stores in 2010.
