Nokia 6710 Navigator. Andrex in your hands
Without meaning to… no, scrap that. With every intention to do so, we want to hurt the feelings of Nokia. Because in the Nokia 6710 they’ve made a very, very decent phone. About the best, in fact, in terms of mapping and navigation, that you can currently buy. All well and good, you think. However, Nokia seem to have decided that simply having great mapping functionality is enough for the Nokia 6710 Navigator. That seeing as how they’ve got the mapping wrapped up, they can forget all about making sure that everything else is up to scratch. Specifically, what all that mapping stuff is wrapped in. Because the 6710 is, without any shadow of a doubt, one of the ugliest phones Nokia have released in recent times.
They claim, as they would do, that there’s actually reasons behind the madness. The phone is thick, chunky and has all the streamlining of a water buffalo, they claim, so you can hold the phone comfortably whilst running around a city being lost and using the onscreen maps, a but like the idiot in the video below. Well, okay, but to be honest we haven’t really ever come across phones that are uncomfortable to hold, and have in fact held many a lovely looking phone that felt even more comfortable in our palm. Then there’s the material the thing’s made from: it feels like something you’d find in Poundland that’s been made in China for about two pence. Their press release even boasts about the “pleasant feel with a soft touch surface.” How absolutely completely 100% ridiculous can you get?! This is a phone, not toilet paper! The arse is to be pampered with softness and so on, phone-hand wants to feel something that feels like it’s been stolen off a NASA rocket or a Ferrari. Pleasant and soft… unbelievable.
And it’s all just such a shame, because as this Nokia 6710 review proves, and as you can see even from The official Nokia page, the 6710 is a stonecold winner when it comes to mapping. Maybe you can see through the looks, maybe you can be the person who’s forever talking about their girlfriend’s great personality… good luck to you if you are.
