The newly announced Nokia N8 is a step up from the range of perfectly ordinary handsets that have been rolling of the Nokia production line recently. Here we give you 3 reasons as to why we think you will love the Nokia N8.
1)	The camera – It comes with an impressive 12MP camera that is capable of shooting HD footage. It has a Carl Zeiss lens and Xenon flash that has become synonymous with Nokia handsets down the years.
2)	It has an HDMI output – Not only can you capture HD footage you can even play it back on any TV that is HD ready. Now that is not a bad thing for a little handset such as the N8
3)	It runs on the new Symbian 3 OS – This promises multi touch and pinch functionality as well as plenty of other neat features, too much to list here in fact. If you want a full list of features read this longer Nokia N8 review and see for yourself.
There are some other pretty neat features too, such as 16GB of internal storage. This can be expanded to 32GB with the micro SD slot, so you can keep all of your multimedia with you whilst you are on the move. We also think that the screen is pretty awesome too. It’s almost good enough to watch a full film on, although until we get our hands on it we can’t be definite on this. We promise to bring you more information on this handset as news breaks. Watch this space.

If Nokia weren’t so, well, downright Finnish and cute – and, to be fair, exceptionally good at what they do – we’d be tempted to greet the announcement of the Nokia Booklet 3G with nothing but ridicule and shouts of ‘BACK IN YOUR BOX YOU MONEY GRABBING ****S, HAVEN’T YOU GOT ENOUGH MONEY?’

However, Nokia being Nokia, this little thing (their first ever branching out into this pure computing realm) is an absolute gem. It’s not all that different from the ever growing number of other netbooks on the market, but then that’s always been Nokia’s forte: making things that are not really remarkable, but are downright solid.

Which is exactly the case with the Nokia 3G Booklet. The RAM, the processor, the screen size and type can all be flicked by with a bit of a yawn. But then a couple of things hit you, as you scroll through the likes of this official page. The WiFi AND 3G for example. 3G…. in a netbook! Nice. Then there’s the A-GPS… Then there’s the 12 hour battery life (as long as you don’t go crazy on the bongo viewing, mind)…

And then you get a look of the thing. And… it all starts to make sense. A lot of sense indeed. Because while there’s nothing truly spectacular about the Booklet, there’s more than enough being done at a very high standard, and just enough that’s truly unique, to make this a very, very viable option indeed. Have a ponder on this Nokia Booklet 3G review for even more stats.

Then check out this video below too.

Then admit it… you didn’t think you would be, but you are, aren’t you. You’re impressed.

that’s what you’d normally expect from us, right? These are the major themes, topics and general sentiments that you’d expect whatever the handset, whatever the announcement, whatever the news. Well, today, with the N900, you can rest happily in your extra support chair you fat ****, because we have just about nothing but nice things to say about this thing.

All we have to say is: look at the video. Just look at it. Fair enough, it’s a typically shoddy, cheap, almost ridiculous effort from our Finnish friends. But: Just. Look. At. How. That. Things Performs.

The Nokia N900 doesn’t look like it’s just handling, or dealing with, or acceptably coping with the tasks being sent its way. It looks like it’s doing them in its sleep. In fact, rather than beating around the bush, we’ll just come right out and say it: this phone looks incredible. Like, special special. Not just, yeah, kinda better than most out there in a couple of ways, but actually really, really, REALLY good. Just look at it!

Ah, anyway, hopefully you get the point. If you need some more convincing, take a look at this Nokia N900 review, or just scan over these official stats to get a sense of just how darn fantastic its shaping up.

There we go, see: we can do it. An almost entirely positive blog… so enjoy it, you ****s, because it ain’t going to last.

Touchscreens, hmmm? It seems like only 18 months ago they were all like, ooohhh, look at me, I’m a touchscreen, you want to touch me don’t you, mmm, yeah, you want to press my bits and slide your sweaty digits over my responsive interface, yeah, oohhhh, you cheeky monster you, but you can’t afford me, oh no, you can’t, because I’m all expensive and exclusive and made only for the people with more money than sense, mmm.

Wait, that was only 18 months ago. Or at least that’s how we remember it… Anyway, point being, touchscreens have come a long way recently. Something that is made all the more apparent when a Nokia 5230 lands on your desk with a look that says, ooohhh, look at me, wouldn’t you like a caress of my curves, but with a price tag that screeches, A’WIGHT DARLIN, FANCY A QUICKIE RAWND TH’ BACKATHA GARIDGES, YEAH?

Which, ahem, is to say (obviously), that the Nokia 5230 is rather jolly good value for money, providing as it does a wide range of very competent features for a price that one has to see before one quite believes it.

Don’t believe us? Then check out this Nokia 5230 review, have a gander at the official page, tehn get stright onto the case with finding yourself some deals for this thing, because we think this things going to be selling quicker than you’d imagine.

We wonder if this might just be the tip of the iceberg? If it’s not just touchscreen phones. If prices of all such luscious and fantastic things are dropping and we just don’t know about it. Well, only one way to find out… to Soho we go. Honk!

A few years ago, people started putting ultraviolet strip lights under their cars. Ford Escorts, initially. Then those pimped up Renault 5’s, for a while. Fair enough, we thought. Each to their own. Who are we to try and stop someone doing something the equivalent of tattooing “I’m a stinking **** and you never, ever want to talk to me. Ever.” We’re all for freedom of expression here.

Then, a little while ago, we saw a moped go past with a single ultraviolet strip light under it. A moped. A 50cc, whining little moped. With a glowing purple haze under it. It was like Shameless meets Star Wars, and it made us sick in our mouth a little. From that moment on, we’ve always been a little more openly critical of things that are unnecessarily flashy, that are so offensively in your face that you feel like you’ve been violated. And the sad thing is we find this happening more and more in the mobile phone world. External speakers that are as loud as our (admittedly terrible) home stereo. Screens that are so big you could eat your dinner off them. Luckily, not everyone in the world has been infected by this madness. Take the Nokia 6700, for example. This phone (check out Nokia’s official page for a taster) oozes class in a way that that young chap on the glow-arsed scooter could never understand. Even if he did drop out of his JSA-scamming and went back to school. The Nokia 6700 classic has as many impressive specs as the best of those dinner-plate smartphones but it doesn’t feel the need to push them in your face like a pair of page 3 fun bags. (Have a look at this Nokia 6700 review if you want to see the fun bags though.)

So there we have it. So if you’ve ever considered installing said strip lights into your vehicle, perhaps, like a long and fulfilling life, you don’t deserve this phone. If you haven’t, then have a little look at this video to see if it’s something you do want.

Nokia E72

The Nokia E72 is one of the newest phones to be part of the E-series. This phone joins phones like the Nokia E55 and the Nokia E52 in being a business oriented phone. The E72 will be in the candy bar form factor and will have a full QWERTY keyboard. The phone is powered by the S60 processor which will allow it to handle web pages and messages easily. All the connectivity options that are part of all smart phones are expected. As this phone has not been officially announced by Nokia yet, all details about its specifications are not available.

Specifications:

- Size: Not available but will not be bigger than the E71

- Weight: 100-150 g

- Screen: TFT display that will have a high resolution to view WebPages easily

- Memory: Details not available

- Battery: Details not available

- Camera: Details not available

- Connectivity: quad band GPRS/ HSDPA/ 3G connectivity/ Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth/ USB

- Music: Details not available

- Other features: T9/ Document viewer

The E72 is one of the sleeker devices to grace the E series. It is strong, and with the rounded edges, is actually more pocket friendly than you may expect. The device has chrome accents on its borders making it look very stylish and expensive. The screen is nice and bright making it easy to view documents on. In sunlight, it might be more difficult to read the screen, but this is a common problem shared by most mobile phones. The back of the phone is colored, making it look really good. The metallic finish is a big improvement from the more “plasticky” models in the Nokia phone line up such as the Nokia 5310.

The keyboard of the E72 is very similar to the one on the E71. The only difference is that the keyboard on the E72 is larger. The keys on the E72 are also larger making it easy for the user to use even if he/she has large fingers. The keys are also better spaced when compared to devices such as the Blackberry Bold. The E72 has an ambient light sensor on the front allowing the brightness of the screen to change depending on the brightness of the environment. There are the standard shortcut keys on top of the key board. They include a 5 way navigation D pad which looks slightly different. This key looks somewhat like a NaviWheel and is very easy to use. The camera is on the back of the phone. The flash is an LED one which allows decent shots to be taken even in low light conditions. The operating system of the E72 is the same as the E71. This device will probably come with Feature Pack 2 which will make it even better. The phone will probably feature on the high end of the price spectrum.

Overall, the E72 is just an improved E71 in terms of appearance. If you have an E71, then the E72 is not the phone to consider as both phones are identical in terms of features.

Although we admire Nokia’s dedication in squeezing what they’ve managed to squeeze into the Nokia E52, we think they might have just, well, squeezed a little too hard. In the same way the world’s tallest man could probably – if he tried really, really hard, and maybe took out the steering wheel – fit into a Mini Cooper, there wouldn’t really be much point in his doing so because he wouldn’t be able to drive. And this is what we think is going to be the main problem with the E52, because for all the high-end, business-driven features, gizmos and go-faster stripes it has, it doesn’t have a QWERTY-keyboard. And yes, yes, we know a lot of people don’t like the bulkiness a keyboard necessarily creates (and at 9.9mm thick, and barely 100g weight, this thing is a stunner, we have to admit), it seems kind of redundant to have so many features that require, well, typing and browsing without having the typical tools of browsing and typing.

There’s access to intranets via the Mobile VPN capabilities, remote access to your hard drive via Ovi files, push email support, super quick HSDPA and all sorts of similar businessy jiggery pokery, but the idea of trying to navigate all this using nothing but the number keys is terrifying.

If you’re happy with that idea though, then this phone could well be right up your street. With it’s crazy thin dimensions, fantastic build quality and a huge range of mid to top-range features, you could do a hell of a lot worse than the Nokia E52. There’s a full Nokia E52 review here if you fancy more details, or have a little look at the video below.

So what’s the point, you’re asking. Well, the point is that this – perhaps unsurprisingly – will be one of the cheapest phones you’ll be able to buy (once the third quarter release date finds us). At just over 50 Euros being stated as the price by Nokia, the Nokia 2720 Fold is beyond cheap.

Clearly Nokia are hoping that this level of entry is going to open up huge swathes of customers previously priced out of the market with the Nokia 2720 Fold, and no doubt they’ll make a lot of money out of doing so. But we think there’s going to be plenty of others out there who are going to be quite taken by the sheer functionality of the Nokia 2720 Fold. Watch this space. Or watch this utterly terrible video instead. Then read this Nokia 2720 fold review.

There’s probably some stats somewhere to back this up, and if we weren’t too busy playing with new phones all day, we’d probably try and dig them out. But instead, we’re going to make some up instead. So, let’s say someone’s just bought phone X. Phone X has the following functions, and next to each function is how much the new owner uses each function in the first two weeks of buying there phone:

Making / receiving telephone calls - 35%
Sending / receiving SMS messages - 20%
Listening to music - 15%
Taking pictures - 9%
Using the 3G connection - 8%
Using the Wifi - 5%
Using the GPS function - 5%
Everything else - 3%

Then, most interestingly, is what happens after those first two new shiny and exciting weeks, after you’ve bored everyone around you by showing them all the cool apps and noisy fake shutter releases and how look! the phone knows where we are! type things.

Making / receiving telephone calls – 60%
Sending / receiving SMS messages - 25%
Listening to music - 15%
Taking pictures - 4%
Using the 3G connection - 2%
Using the Wifi - 2%
Using the GPS function - 1%
Everything else - 1%

Now, we’re no scientists, but, that seems scientifically sound in every way, right? Okay, maybe not, but you get the point. The point is, there are certain, normally very basic things that we do with our phones every day, and this is never going to alter that much. If you’ve bought a music phone, for example, chances are you’re going to be listening to music as much 6 months after you buy it as you do 6 days after buying it. But is it ever true of features like GPS? Maybe the odd person it works as a revelation, an oh-my-god-how-did-i-survive-without-GPS effect. But we guess (scientifically) that this is true of a tiny percentage of people.

So, the point (we’re getting to it) is that while you might hear story after story over the coming weeks (until its autumn release) about how the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic has lost its GPS, been stripped of its 3G, has had a bit of its screen size lopped off… pause a minute. Ask yourself if you really need the things it’s missing. Then take a look at the 5530 XpressMusic video below, note the size comparison to the fully featured 5800, and tell us you don’t think the 5530 XpressMusic is better for the streamlining. And if you want more details on what’s there (and what’s not) check out this Nokia 5530 review.

It’s not often easy to get excited about an update, or relaunch. But even though those familiar with the already fantastic E71 will recognise the look of the new Nokia E72, we still there’s more than enough going on in the E72 to write home about. Or write a blog about at least…

First up, the camera’s been given a massive boost to 5MP, and with an LED flash and autofocus, that sounds like more than good enough for a phone-based camera to us. There’s also now a 3.5mm jack input on the top of the phone, perfect for plugging in your favourite headphones and sticking the handset into your top or trouser pocket. And seeing as how slim, light and streamlined this handset is, it’ll slot straight in. And Nokia being Nokia, they’re also rumoured to be chucking in a 4GG micro SD card with the package once this thing is released in a few months time. There’s also a new ‘optical’ navigation key – a bit like something you’d find on a laptop. We think this might be one of those things that’s tricky to get your head (or your finger) around at first, but also don’t doubt that once you do it’ll make scrolling and panning a thing of joy. The Nokia E72’s all round performance has also been given a massive boost, so expect the Symbian S60-based system to run all your emails, internet and Quickoffice tasks at high speed.

All in all, we think this autumn is going to be the time when people are talking about only one business phone, and it’s the Nokia E72. There’s a Nokia E72 review here. And feast your eyes on this simple but lovely video to whet your appetite for release date. Yum.
